Details, Details, Details

It stands to reason that if I have seagull sound effects then I need to have actual seagulls on the train layout.  Since I have not figured out how to hide a mini projector to beam video of seagulls flying across my backdrop, the next best thing was to carve some from Sculpey.  I carved these two to see how they would look. I think after painting them up it might be worth making several hundred more (just kidding).

I love adding little details everywhere on the layout. In fact it might distract me from the task actually building the layout and running trains.  In the next photo I added a miniature version of an actual book (Ernest Hemingway's A Farewell to Arms) appropriate for the time setting of 1930s.

The next photo shows me placing flower pots in the few balconies that I have already built. They lend a lotto character and they are easy to make out of Sculpey.

In the last photo you can see a wine glass, wine bottle, a newspaper, a suitcase, loafs of bread, sewer grate and an empty coffee cup. It sets a mood and adds an element of mystery.  Here is a man that has time to drink wine while the other men are working. Who is he?

Tell a story with your details, make sure it goes along with your chosen time period. And have fun.
