Installing and Programing DCC Remote Controlled Couplers
Programming the DCC Decoder to Control Coupler
I use Soundtraxx Tsunnami2 DCC decoders exclusively so the following instructions are not going to be entirely useful for those individuals who use other decoders. I wired the actuator motor to the Green/White wire of the DCC decoder which is Function 5 (FX5) which is normally controlled by pressing the F26 key which is not very convenient to access if you are using a normal throttle (perfectly easy to access if you use WiThrottle). So I wanted to switch control of the motor from F26 to F7. This is accomplished by programing CVs.
Steps
- CV32 =1 - to remap (move the control from one key to another) first you have to enable the index page which is in the case page 1. so hit program on your controller then CV32 =1. This will get you to page 1.
- CV 1.261 = 7 - right now CV 1.261 equals 26, which tells the decoder when FX26 is pressed it should turn on or off whatever is attached to the green/white wire. to change that to a different function key write the function key number to the CV. In my case I want the coupler motor to be turned on or off with Function key 7 so I programmed CV 1.261 = 7
- CV 1.306 = 7 - I wanted the uncouple sound to sound when I pressed the coupler motor, so remapped the uncouple sound to the same function key as the motor control function key (7). So CV 1.306 controls the uncouple sound therefore CV 1.306 = 7
- CV 1.273 = 255 - to deprogram the dimmer function (I could also program the number 26 into 1.273 so Ican dim by pressing Function 26)
Word of caution turn the function off (hit the function key again) as soon as possible or you will burn the motor.
Thanks to George Bogatiuk of Soundtraxx for the assistance in programming the Tsunami2 decoder.
