Citizens of Amalfitano

People bring model railroads to life, and to get the type of feel I wanted I opted to sculpt my own figures using Sculpey.  I wanted to learn to sculpt my own characters with their own personalities and stories.  I want them to convey the feeling of 1930s fishing village on the coast of Italy.   I want to capture the unique personality of a fishing village crowded with characters who could have grown up together, whose lives are intertwined with each other given they live in a very small fishing village who either work for the winery or the various little businesses near the dock.  Then there is the village priest, the dock workers and the people who come to visit.

The first is Luciana Sapore is married to Giacomo Sapore.  I am currently have him designated as the wine inspector, but I am not totally satisfied that is what he will be.  At the time of this writing the Sapores are my best effort.  Luciana is a strong woman that loes to travel.  Giacamo is a businessman who loves good food and fine wine.

This view shows the glasses that are made of brass wire with real lenses made from a product called Kristal Kleer.

Next up is a little girl to accompany the boy who I had sculpted to fish the local river.  She seems upset that she isn't allowed to try fishing.

This is Remy one of my first scuplts.  He came out pretty good.  I designed him to move his head left to right.  Unfortunately, the motor is too loud.  So I have to come up with a quieter way of animating these figures.

I hope to post stories for each of these characters and more.  I have to stop sculpting figures and sit down and create their stories.  Imagine what their lives are like, where they live, what they do for a living and what are their dreams.
